News on THE WOODS
If you happened to see a little indie flicked entitled May, you will know the name Lucky McKee. May was his directorial debut and it quickly became a cult favorite after being quietly released on video. Now McKee is directing his first studio film, entitled The Woods.
This is a preview image recently featured in Entertainment Weekly:
Set in 1965, The Woods is set in an all-girls private school and concerns mysterious occurrences in the woods surrounding the school. The film stars Agnes Bruckner, Patricial Clarkson and BRUCE CAMPBELL!
Bruce Campbell posted this information on http://www.bruce-campbell.comhis official site[/url]:
“I play Joe Fasulo, a semi-nerd father of the lead girl. Think the original The Haunting, set in 1965. It’s directed by a new filmmaker named Lucky McKee - he did a cool little indie called “May” that made some noise a year ago. This is his first studio movie.”
We’ll keep you up to date on the progress of The Woods. In the meantime, buy or rent May.

Rent it on-line at Netflix!

The Future of STAR WARS
Rumors have been circulating like wildfire around the recent Lucasfilm Star Wars summit. We told you about it here. Now, supposedly, a spy for Ain’t It Cool News has attended the summit and leaked the following information.
According to the spy, the Star Wars timeline will be as follows:
Now: The Clone Wars animated series on Cartoon Network
September 2004: Original trilogy released on DVD
January 2005: Episode III teaser advertising begins.
May 2005: Episode III in theaters.
November 2005: Episode III DVD
2006: Two television ideas are being considered, one live-action, one animated.
The spy also supposedly saw some Episode III footage: “Some cool as hell stuff. Anakin is looking darker than ever. Dark clothes, with what appears to be some scars on his face. They showed one scene with Obi-Wan, The Emperor and Anakin crashing their ship into a planet as the ship burns. They showed some animation of what will be OB1’s transportation at one point in the film. A large lizard that’s able to walk upside down and scale walls. [minor spoilers] Oh - and they showed some green screen footage of the final lightsaber fight between Obi-Won and Anakin… It looked colossal. The lightsaber fight to end all lightsaber fights. Evil wins, we all know that. The intensity with which the two were fighting was phenomenal. Seems the final battle takes place on a lava planet, and at one point the two are hoping back and forth on hovercrafts floating over the lava.”
While the information definitely sounds like it could be accurate, take it all with a grain of salt. Consider the source.

MATRIX REVOLUTIONS rakes it in
Released worldwide on Wednesday, The Matrix Revolutions raked in a healthy $43.1 million. In North America alone, the film grossed $29 million, starting with limited sneak previews on Tuesday night.
To put this in some perspective, The Matrix Reloaded grossed $37.5 million on its opening day alone. At this rate, it should have its budget recouped by the end of the month.
Critical response is almost universally negative. Audience response hasn’t been much better.

SAVAGE FILM SCHOOL!!!
Our special focus on MicroCinema continues with three exciting new articles we like to call ... THE SAVAGE FILM SCHOOL.
Cult-filmmaker Rock Savage doesn’t make sissy movies about his emotions. He makes action-packed flicks about masked wrestlers, mod spies, busty babes and karate-choppin’ werewolves. He’s directed dozens of films (with titles like Mummy a Gore Gore, Maxx Blood: Vampire Spy and Hardboiled Heroes), all of them on a shoe-string budgets.
His filmmaking methods are unconventional… to say the least. But these films are perfect examples of a filmmaker realizing a unique vision despite all budgetary obstacles.
Check out the Savage Film School and how to make films the Savage way.
