A new glimpse of THE PUNISHER

image

Wim Wenders goes digital

image Wim Wenders recently began production on a new feature shot for IFC’s InDigEnt Productions. The film, shot on digital video is tentatively titled Angst and Alienation in America.

“The American reviews of my first films all summed up my work as dealing with ‘Angst, Alienation and America.’ So I called them my Triple-A movies,” Wenders said when asked about the films title. “Some 20 years later, I think that Angst and Alienation in America makes a good working title for a film that takes place in downtown Los Angeles, the hunger capital of America.”

This film is the first part of a series of films envisioned by Wenders and his partner Peter Schwarzkopf. Wenders concept involves a series of inexpensive digitally shot films that are “high in content and contemporary issues.”

The project stars Michelle Williams (Dawson’s Creek), John Diehl and Richard Edson and is based on a screenplay by Wenders and Michael Meredith.

John Woo to shoot a musical?

Monkey Peaches reports that director John Woo is planning to make his first musical. Apparently the story is set in America in the 1930’s and concerns a pick-pocket with dreams of becoming a member of a crime family. Apparently, Woo has wanted to do a musical for a long time, but wasn’t convinced of their commercial viability. But with the recent successes of Moulin Rouge and Chicago, he was able to get the film produced through Warner Brothers.  For more information check out Monkey Peaches.

Andrew Davis to direct Don Quixote?

Moviehole has reported that Andrew Davis is in talks to replace Terry Gilliam on the eternally in trouble production of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. The troubled production was even the focus of a recent documentary (Lost In Lamancha).

Davis, the Oscar nomated director of The Fugitive, sounds like he may be tempting fate when he utters the following:

“I’m thinking of doing Don Quixote. Terry Gilliam tried to do it. I talked to someone who’s involved in it, and he still wants to do it… its very complicated. But I’m in talks”, says Davis. “...I’ve got to do it right. If I got to make it, I’d like to make it with someone like Jon Voight you know, or someone like John Leguizamo – who probably aren’t big enough stars to get it greenlit. If Johnny Depp said he wanted to do it again right now, we’d get the money. We’ll see...”
