SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN gets spoofed
Actor Jim Carrey has used his star power to get the long in development adaptation of The Six Million Dollar Man off the ground. He has turned to Old School director Todd Phillips and writer Scott Armstrong to team-up on the film.
The film has been in development for a long time as a big-budget action film. Carrey’s intention is to turn the project into a comedy. With Todd Phillips on board, it sounds like he is headed in the right direction.
Filming is expected to being in fall of 2004.

Gibson's PASSION finds distributor
Variety reported today that Newmarket Films has picked up Mel Gibson’s controversial project The Passion of Christ for North American distribution. In the distribution agreement, Newmarket owns no part of the film and will simply serve as a distributor, thus keeping them relatively free of the controversy this film is causing.
The film deals with the last days of Christ and has been labelled as anti-semitic. Anti-defamation officials claim the film perpetuates the idea that Jews were responsible for the crucifixion of Christ. The film is currently scheduled for a February 25th release (Ash Wednesday). Contrary to early reports, The Passion of Christ will appear with subtitles, something Gibson was trying to avoid.

PIRATES gets trilogized
Variety reported today that the smash hit Pirates of the Caribbean will be getting not one but two sequels. This gamble has paid off for films like Lord of the Rings and The Matrix and Disney is hoping for the same kind of return on Pirates. Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom have all committed to returning for at least one more film, so the studio is currently scrambling to secure deals with all the talent. Writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot are already working on a script for the sequel.
This is an interesting move, but not surprising given the current trend. Hopefully Disney will make two actual movies, rather than just padding out one already overly long film and slicing it into two parts. I’m looking at you Kill Bill. At Cinema Eye, we have coined the term “trilogizing” to describe this phenomenon. Why sequelize a movie when you can trilogize it. That’s like ordering a medium soft drink at the concession stand when the large is only 25 cents more.
The great thing about trilogizing is that it allows Hollywood to bilk more money out of audiences who will shuffle into the theaters like cattle and see whatever movie the television told them to go see that week. And that means more money for Hollywood producers and studio heads.
Don’t sequelize --- TRILOGIZE!

Jack Black as Ozzy Osbourne?
It’s no secret that Colin Farrell is the leading contender for the role of Ozzy Osbourne in the biopic, being prepped by Sharon Osbourne. However, Farrell may be getting some competition from an unlikely source - Jack Black.
Black recently was a guest on Sharon Osbournes talk show. According to The Z Review, Black expressed serious interest in the role. “Ozzy was a hero of mine as a kid and I have to say, I’ve been tracking the Ozzy film. If anyone’s Ozzy, I’m Ozzy.”
Due to the surprise success of School of Rock, Jack Black is enjoying new clout in Hollywood. He is currently using this clout to get Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny into production at New Line. After that, Ozzy could seriously be in his future.
