HOSTEL trailer

image

I had a chance to check out HOSTEL at Fantastic Fest earlier this year and I completely loved it. If you like ultra-gory, sexy, politically incorrect horror films, this is the one for you. It’s been pushed back to February, no doubt to avoid getting crushed by KONG and NARNIA, but you can now check out the trailer at Yahoo.

John Carpenter launches new site

image

You can knock his recent films all you want, but John Carpenter will always be one of my favorite horror directors. So despite the fact that GHOSTS OF MARS really sucked, I will continue to remain on the lookout for new Carpenter films. So I was intrigued when a friend pointed out what I presume is a new official John Carpenter website. It’s pretty sparse at the moment but offers a tantalizing glimpse at CIGARETTE BURNS, which is Carpenter’s episode of the MASTERS OF HORROR series which is currently running on Showtime. The site is a little Flash-heavy for my tastes, but there are a few areas where it is genuinely a little creepy.

DARK CITY directors cut DVD coming in 2006

image

DARK CITY is one of a handful of movies that truly deserve a new Special Edition. The current DVD is still the ancient version that came out before most people even knew what DVDs were. it’s a very cool movie that deserves to be re-examined and given more credit for the much more popular movies it inspired (MATRIX, BLADE, UNDERWORLD, etc.). Now it appears a new disc is in the works. Roger Ebert has just published a new review of the movie and in the footnote it mentions that he has recorded a new commentary track for the 2006 directors cut. (via: JoBlo)

R.I.P Misty Mundae

Misty Mundae

Fans of soft-core horror parodies are in mourning today because direct-to-video legend Misty Mundae is no more. The actor who starred in cult “classics” such as SPIDER-BABE, LORD OF THE G-STRINGS and PLAY-MATE OF THE APES is hanging up her pseudonymn and parting ways with E.I. Entertainment. According to DVD Talk, Mundae cites “legal bullshit” and says she isn’t allowed to discuss details. An anonymous Cinema Eye tipster, Brown “sold” the Misty Mundae moniker to E.I., which means they could potentially continue to use it with a new starlet. For future projects, including the upcoming Media Blasters release SHADOW, she be billed under her real name: Erin Brown. But she will always be Misty to us!
