TWO FOR THE MONEY clips

image

I haven’t heard too much about TWO FOR THE MONEY, but I’m definitely interested. I love movies about greedy slimeball characters screwing each other over (WALL STREET, BOILER ROOM, GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, etc.). And if the movie features Al Pacino in full-on scenery devouring mode, that makes it even better. Here are a few clips to whet your appetite.

Paramount backs Blu-Ray format

image

Paramount is the latest studio to sign on in support of Blu-Ray as the next generation DVD format. “We have been intrigued by the broad support of Blu-ray, especially the key advantage of including Blu-ray in PlayStation 3,” said Thomas Lesinski, president of Paramount Pictures, Worldwide Home Entertainment in a recent interview with the Associated Press. However, Paramount says it will also release it’s movies on the competing HD-DVD format so that consumers will have a choice. This is the first mention I have read of a company officially deciding to release its movies on both formats. This could lead to an interesting (and possibly very confusing) period of time where movies are released on multiple formats simultaneously: DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, UMD, etc.

Kevin Smith leaves FLETCH WON

image

Although he’s talked about the project for years, Kevin Smith is no longer attached to FLETCH WON. “The movie is going to be made, and if all goes as planned should be in production in early ‘06. Second, and correctly, Kevin Smith is no longer affiliated with the Fletch film as writer or director”, said David List, producer of the film.  “His type of comedy just isn’t FLETCH. It’s not that Kevin isn’t talented or funny. It’s just that his comedic style, ultimately, proved to not translate well for FLETCH, at least as I and Harvey felt. Keep an open mind. There’s lot’s of very funny writers out there”.  List say there should be an announcement in the near future about a new writer and director for the film. He also hints that there is a good possibility that Chevy Chase will return to play the lead.

Exclusive STAR WARS DVD at Wal-Mart

image

STAR WARS fans who buy REVENGE OF THE SITH at Wal-Mart will also score a Wal-Mart exclusive bonus DVD. The DVD is entitled THE STORY OF STAR WARS. Right now information is sketchy but according to Wal-Mart’s website, the disc features “R2-D2 & C-3PO’s Chronicles Of Luke And Anakin Skywalker. Almost 60 minutes of additional content.” This is just one more reason for you geeks to line-up at Wal-Mart at midnight of November 1st.

Finally! DAZED AND CONFUSED: CRITERION COLLECTION

DAZED AND CONFUSED is easily one of my ten favorite movies and I’m sure it had some influence on my recent move to Austin. I was infuriated by the last DVD release which seemed targeted at the lowest common denominator of DVD buyers and I have been holding out hope that Criterion would release a version that would rival their awesome release of Linklater’s SLACKER. Now the Austin American Statesman is reporting that a Criterion edition is indeed on the way.

2003 marked the 10th anniversary of Richard Linklater’s enduringly great DAZED AND CONFUSED, and the film’s hometown - Austin - partied in appropriate manner with a thronged anniversary soiree thrown by the Austin Film Society. Having the cast and producers in town for the bash made it easy to film all the key players in one place, and that’s what AMC did for the new doc MAKING DAZED, premiering at 9 p.m. Sunday on cable channel 63. Shot at Linklater’s bucolic home outside Austin, the fun, illuminating program includes behind-the-scenes footage of a shaggy-haired Linklater at work in 1992 and new interviews with actors whose careers were launched by the movie: Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck and Adam Goldberg. Hear about the passion, the struggles and the ‘70s wigs in this festive slice of Austin movie lore. And keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming deluxe DVD of Dazed and Confused from Criterion
