Hugh Jackman turns down James Bond role
The speculation over who will be the next James Bond has run rampant since it was first announced Pierce Brosnan was stepping down. X-MEN actor Hugh Jackman has always been one of the names near the top of the list. Now, Dark Horizons is reporting that Hugh Jackman was officially offered a three picture deal to play the super-spy. However, Jackman has turned down the role. Various rumors are circulating as to the actors motivations for the movie. Friends have cited a busy schedule and Jackman’s fear of being typecast as possible reasons. My theory is that Jackman is smart enough to realize that the 007 franchise sucks donkey dick and to take on this role would be a serious career setback.

Samuel Jackson vs. Snakes! On a plane!
In an interview with Collider, Samuel Jackson confirmed that his upcoming movie PACIFIC AIR FLIGHT 121 will be getting a name change. Here’s a brief excerpt:
Beaks: One of those films that you’re working on right now is… well, it’s called “Pacific Air 121"—
Jackson: SNAKES ON A PLANE, man!
Beaks: Exactly.
Jackson: We’re totally changing that back. That’s the only reason I took the job: I read the title.
Here’s hoping the studio comes to their senses, because a movie called PACIFIC AIR FLIGHT 121 isn’t something to get excited about. SNAKES ON A PLANE on the other hand would be a must-see for me. Read the full interview at Collider.

THE WOODS gets a release date
Sony has finally announced a release date for Lucky McKee’s sophomore feature THE WOODS. According to horror-movies.ca, the studio is planning a moderate release of less than 600 theaters on September 16th. This film has been sitting on Sony’s shelf for quite some time now. To put things in perspective, this movie was actually in production before M. Night Shyamalan’s THE VILLAGE (released last summer). Both movies initially planned to use the title THE WOODS, but since McKee’s movie was in production first, Shyamalan’s film got a title change. I loved McKee’s first film and am really looking forward to this one, particularly since it features Bruce Campbell in a supporting role.

Saul Bass on-line exhibit
When it comes to movie titles, Saul Bass is the godfather. While he may be unknown to the average moviegoer, he is considered a master by todays title designers. He designed amazing title sequences for classic films that include PSYCHO, VERTIGO and THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. I have been an avid fan of his work for years now, so I was delighted to find this on-line exhibition of some of Bass’ classic sequences. There are also a few articles that are a pretty good introduction to the man and his work. This is a very nicely designed site and a great tribute to the man and his work.
