2046 almost finished

Variety, of all places, reported today on the status of the new Wong Kar-wai project 2046. The film has been in production for four years and is a sequel to his amazing film In the Mood for Love.  Once shooting is completed, there will be a lot of visual effects added in post-production, so a release date hasn’t yet been announced.

“We should have finished production by the end of December,” Wong told Variety. “There are three more weeks to do in Shanghai and then about four in Hong Kong. But we will be doing a lot of visual effects in post, so the exact release date is hard to say.”

2046 follows the novelist character from In the Mood For Love. 2046 is the title of a science fiction novel that he is writing that will be brought to live as a movie within a movie, hence the need for lots of special effects.
