R.I.P Misty Mundae
Fans of soft-core horror parodies are in mourning today because direct-to-video legend Misty Mundae is no more. The actor who starred in cult “classics” such as SPIDER-BABE, LORD OF THE G-STRINGS and PLAY-MATE OF THE APES is hanging up her pseudonymn and parting ways with E.I. Entertainment. According to DVD Talk, Mundae cites “legal bullshit” and says she isn’t allowed to discuss details. An anonymous Cinema Eye tipster, Brown “sold” the Misty Mundae moniker to E.I., which means they could potentially continue to use it with a new starlet. For future projects, including the upcoming Media Blasters release SHADOW, she be billed under her real name: Erin Brown. But she will always be Misty to us!

DVD WHORE >> Tuesday, October 18, 2005
It’s October… that means it’s a good time for horror… and bat-men… and ZOMBIES. The huge release today is BATMAN BEGINS, a movie I absolutely loved. Cashing in on that release are all kinds of Batman releases from the Complete Movie Serials to Special Editions of the first four films. The collection that’s noticeably missing is the BATMAN live-action television series, which is something I would love to own.
For me, the other big pick is the Unrated edition of George A. Romero’s LAND OF THE DEAD. I know a lot of people were disappointed by this movie, but I completely enjoyed it and will definitely be adding this to my collection. If you look at this movie as a post-apocalyptic movie instead of as a zombie movie, it works even better. Cashing in on this legitimate Romero release is DAY OF THE DEAD 2, which Romero had nothing to do with and looks like a travesty.
There’s a complete list of todays releases after the jump. If you haven’t been to the store yet, consider using these handy links to add to your collection while helping to support Cinema Eye. Use the comments link to let us know what you bought (or wish you could afford) this week.

CARLITO'S WAY: RISE TO POWER makes a killing
You won’t hear much about the tremendous success of CARLITO’S WAY: RISE TO POWER. Why? Because it is a direct-to-DVD title. According to DVD Exclusive, Universal shipped approximately 1 million units and they are selling out in stores all over the country. As of October 5, RISE TO POWER was the #3 DVD title in overall sales for Best Buy. Virgin stores sold double the number of copies it initially predicted.

KING KONG DVD details
I’ve only been a casual viewer of the KING KONG production diaries at Kong Is King.net. While I think they are fascinating and very well done, I just don’t want to overload on this movie before it actually comes out. The diaries have been incredibly popular which is no doubt responsible for this amazing DVD release. Click on the thumbnail to see details but this set really continues Jackson’s trend of outstanding DVD releases. This is being released to coincide with the theatrical release of KONG and based on the packaging, I guarantee you that a lot of people will buy this set thinking it is the actual movie.

SPOTLIGHT: The Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection
ALFRED HITCHCOCK: THE MASTERPIECE COLLECTION is one of the most beautiful DVD sets I have had the pleasure to own. It’s a velvet lined box with a door on the front that slides open to reveal 4 DVD cases. Each case is beautifully designed in its own right, designed using original release posters from the movies within. Each of the cases up to four DVDs - bringing the total to 14 movies and one bonus disc of special features. The box also contains a slender booklet with promotional art and brief synopses for each of the movies. Needless to say, it will take quite a bit of time to get through this collection, not to mention write reviews on all the films contained within. But I wanted to give you a heads-up on this great package. If you are a Hitchcock fan and you definitely need to check this one out.
