Details on the *good* SIN CITY DVD
We tried to warn you that the bare bones SIN CITY DVD foisted on the public a few weeks ago . Hopefully you saved your money, because the GOOD version is about the hit store shelves. According to DVD Answsers the new version will hit the streets on December 13th and retail for a street price of $39.99. This is a two disc set which also comes with the complete SIN CITY graphic novel, THE HARD GOODBYE. The big news is that the set features 2 different cuts of the film: 1. The original theatrical cut and 2. An extended directors cut that is split into four separate stories.

MALLRATS: 10TH Anniversary DVD
MALLRATS, Kevin Smith’s followup to CLERKS, was almost universally reviled when it was theatrically released. Since then, it has attracted a hardcore cult following. So it only makes sense that it would receive a new DVD release to celebrate its 10th Anniversary. I like Kevin Smith’s work, but I wouldn’t consider myself a hardcore fan. However, I really enjoyed the CLERKS X DVD and am looking forward to this one. MALLRATS 10TH ANNIVERSARY hits stores on September 20th.

DVD WHORE >> August 16, 2005
It’s Tuesday! That of course means new DVDs. The big release for this week definitely looks like FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY, but since the special edition is right around the corner, I am going to pass on this first release. I will probably pick up THE BROWN BUNNY instead.
Here is a complete list of everything that’s being released this week. If you haven’t been to the store yet, consider using these handy links to add to your collection while helping to support Cinema Eye. Use the comments link to let us know what you bought (or wish you could afford) this week.

Hal Hartley to direct HENRY FOOL 2
At a recent Apple Store event, cult favorite director Hal Hartley announced his plans to leave the U.S. and start work on a sequel to HENRY FOOL. Tentatively titled FAY GRIM, Parker Posey will star as the wife of Henry Fool seven years after the events of that film. The film will be shot in Paris, Berlin and Istanbul. On his move to Europe, Hartley said: “I need to work and I can’t work here. It’s impossibe to make art film in America, particularly in New York. Its just too expensive to make work here, if you want to pursue work that is based on your interest you can’t necessarily be tied to being a commercial success and thats all that happens here.”

DVD WHORE >> June 4, 2005
It’s Tuesday! That of course means new DVDs. My pick for DVD OF THE WEEK is DANGER: DIABOLIK, Mario Bava’s awesome 1960’s superhero flick. This movie has become something of a joke recent times due to it’s distinctive visuals, but it is pure fun to watch. The design, photography, music and direction are all top-notch. Also of note are CASINO: 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION and John Waters’ A DIRTY SHAME. Here’s a complete list of everything being released today.
