Hal Hartley to direct HENRY FOOL 2

image
At a recent Apple Store event, cult favorite director Hal Hartley announced his plans to leave the U.S. and start work on a sequel to HENRY FOOL. Tentatively titled FAY GRIM, Parker Posey will star as the wife of Henry Fool seven years after the events of that film. The film will be shot in Paris, Berlin and Istanbul. On his move to Europe, Hartley said: “I need to work and I can’t work here. It’s impossibe to make art film in America, particularly in New York. Its just too expensive to make work here, if you want to pursue work that is based on your interest you can’t necessarily be tied to being a commercial success and thats all that happens here.” Read the rest...

High Res KONG images released

image

As if to respond to all the internet geek complaints about the special effects for KING KONG looking cheesy, AintItCoolNews has posted a few high-res frames from the film. These look pretty freaking cool and the detail is just amazing. You really can’t judge effects based on a highly compressed internet video file and I’m sure the animators on this movie completely lost it when they heard the negative internet buzz. Check them out…

KING KONG sized hype

image

The hype-machine for Peter Jackson’s KING KONG is already working overtime. If you’ve tuned into any NBC channels over the past few days, you’ve no doubt scene trailers for the trailer which will be airing tonight as part of a global “road block.” Peter Howell has written an interesting article in which he wonders if KONG is going to suffer the same fate as the overhyped GODZILLA. While I am confident KONG will be much better than that film, the relentless hype could get old. The clips in the trailer for the trailer, don’t really do a whole lot to inspire much excitement. They look almost exactly like shots from JURASSIC PARK. And this trading card image that has been making the rounds leaves me a little puzzled. Is this KING KONG, or HULK 2?

Weekend Box Office >> BATMAN CONTINUES

batman begins

BATMAN BEGINS surprised industry insiders and exceeded all expectations by holding its place in the #1 slot this weekend. Audience drop-off for the film was only 45%, which is extremely small for a movie of this type. After 12 days in release BATMAN has earned $121.7 million against a $150 million budget.

The newcomers this weekend didn’t fare as well. BEWITCHED snagged second place with $20.2 million. HERBIE: FULLY LOADED landed in fourth place with $12.8 million. GEORGE A. ROMERO’S LAND OF THE DEAD rounded out the top 5 with $10.8 million.

NEXT WEEKEND: WAR OF THE WORLDS!
