GRINDHOUSE book in the works
I’m eagerly looking forward to GRINDHOUSE from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Bookgasm reports that a book chronicling the creation of the movie is already in the works: Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Publishing will be publishing a companion hardcover to his upcoming two-fisted anthology film GRINDHOUSE, a post-SIN CITYcollaboration with Quentin Tarantino. Predictably, the book will detail the making of the film, but more enticingly, it also will include an overview of the genre. Scheduled for release later this year from the Weinstein Company, GRINDHOUSE consists of two 60-minute movies: a slasher film directed by Tarantino and a zombie flick from Rodriguez, with fake trailers in between the two features. For more information, visit Troublemaker Publishing.

Dimension picks up PIRANHA remake
Everybody hates the idea of remakes of classic films - and usually I do to. But Chuck Russell’s remake of PIRANHA is one flick I am definitely looking forward to. I don’t care what anybody says, Russell’s remake of THE BLOB is freaking awesome and still holds up. I actually like it better than the original film. Now Russell is revisiting Joe Dante’s 1978 Corman-classic PIRANHA. Bring it on!!! According to Variety, Dimension has picked up the distribution rights for all English speaking countries.

A SCANNER DARKLY pushed back to July
According to moviesonline, the release date for A SCANNER DARKLY has been pushed back to July. The revised release date makes a lot of sense, because of Warner Independent was to release it in March, they would have essentially no time to promote the film correctly - because the movie is still being finished up. From the glimpses of it that I have seen, I am convinced this is going to be a groundbreaking piece of animation and probably an important movie from a historical perspective. I’m dying to see this one and have heard amazing things, but have been unable to get into any advance screenings despite my close proximity to the project. So if there is anybody reading this connected to Warner Indpendent or Detour, e-mail me me and get me into a screening! MoviesOnline also has one of the first advance reviews of the film which they give 10 out of 10 stars.

David Fincher to direct TORSO
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fincher has signed on to direct TORSO. TORSO is based on a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Andreyko. The novel is based on the true story of Elliot Ness—after the glory days of the UNTOUCHABLES—hunting a serial killer in Cleveland. The graphic novel was released in the mid-90s to quite a bit of critical acclaim. It was quickly snatched up by Hollywood and has spent it’s time in development hell. Bendis even created a very funny graphic novel called FORTUNE AND GLORY based on his experiences pitching the project to Hollywood execs. This could be a cool project. David Fincher is one of my favorite directors and we haven’t seen much from him in awhile. TORSO will be his followup to ZODIAC (about the Zodiac Killer). Ehren Kruger will write the script and Paramount will release it.
