Danny Elfman drops out of SPIDEY 3 - Is Sam Raimi a "pod person"?
Has cult-favorite director Sam Raimi been replaced by a pod person? Apparently Danny Elfman thinks so. Elfman will not be returning to compose SPIDERMAN 3, and when asked why by CHUD’s Devin Faraci, Elfman stated that SPIDER MAN 2 was “a miserable experience” because of his dealings with director Sam Raimi. Sounds kind of strange. Elfman went on to clarify.

Opening this weekend: THE MAN, EXORCISM
Last weeks #1 hit TRANSPORTER 2, is still going strong, but it will face some competition from two new flicks this weekend: THE MAN and THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE. The heavily promoted EXORCISM (opening on 2,981 screens) is expected to nab the top slot. The Samuel Jackson/Eugene Levy vehicle THE MAN is not expected to break $10 million. I personally will be skipping both of these flicks, but for this time of year… eh… it could be worse. In limited release Miramax is opening AN UNFISHED LIFE on 139 screens.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT gets a director
The cult-hit comic book series 30 DAYS OF NIGHT is coming to the big screen and now has a director attached. David Slade, director of music videos and the dark festival hit HARD CANDY, has signed on to direct the movie for Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. The story concerns a small Alaska town that experiences 30 days a year without sunlight. This makes it a convenient feeding ground for blood-thirsty vampires.

Roger Ebert really hates DEUCE BIGALOW
I always enjoy Roger Ebert’s reviews whether I agree with him or not (more often than not, we are pretty much on the same page.) So I got a real kick out of his review for DEUCE BIGALOW 2: EUROPEAN GIGOLO. Ebert has a serious hate on for this movie and for it’s star Rob Schneider. He pretty much sums things up in his opening paragraph: “DEUCE BIGALOW is aggressively bad, as if it wants to cause suffering to the audience. The best thing about it is that it runs for only 75 minutes.” It’s a great review, which you can read in it’s entirety here. But even more interesting is the serious hate for this film inspired Ebert to compile a list of his most hated movies of all time. It’s a great list with links to his reviews of each film.
