Weekend Box Office >> BATMAN CONTINUES

batman begins

BATMAN BEGINS surprised industry insiders and exceeded all expectations by holding its place in the #1 slot this weekend. Audience drop-off for the film was only 45%, which is extremely small for a movie of this type. After 12 days in release BATMAN has earned $121.7 million against a $150 million budget.

The newcomers this weekend didn’t fare as well. BEWITCHED snagged second place with $20.2 million. HERBIE: FULLY LOADED landed in fourth place with $12.8 million. GEORGE A. ROMERO’S LAND OF THE DEAD rounded out the top 5 with $10.8 million.

NEXT WEEKEND: WAR OF THE WORLDS!

ELIZABETHTOWN sneak peek

image

Director Cameron Crowe has produced a first-look Internet Trailer for his upcoming movie ELIZABETHTOWN. No, there are no superheroes. This is not a sequel. It doesn’t look like the start of a lucrative franchise. But it looks outstanding. I am a huge Cameron Crowe fan and this looks like a film that could potentially be a classic. It’s still a little difficult to discern what this movie is all about, but that makes it all the more interesting. I will also be keeping an eye open during the scenes shot at the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, because SEX MACHINE lead actress Jessalynn Alfrey did a little work as an extra on this movie.

SEX MACHINE teaser trailer

image

If you wonder why updates have been a little slow at Cinema Eye, it’s because we’ve been hard at work making our own movie. Now you can get a sneak preview. This teaser trailer was put together mainly for the cast and crew, but now you can get a sneak preview. SEX MACHINE is a retro-futuristic story of homocidal strippers, reanimated hitmen and drug addicted art-school students. And it was made for just a little over $8,000. You will love it!

Sam Raimi to produce MONKEY'S PAW

image

Sam Raimi’s GHOST HOUSE PICTURES has tapped into a gold mine with their string of PG-13 horror flicks. While the movies have been lame at best, they have raked it in at the box-office. Now GHOST HOUSE hopes to continue their wildly successfuly run of films with a family friendly horror film: MONKEY’S PAW.

According to Variety: “PAW concerns a father who brings home an artifact rumored to make any wish come true, but misfortune begins to befall the family with every desire granted.” The film is written by Dave Kajganich and Tom McAlister and will be produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.

The Adventures of Young Boba Fett

image

The STAR WARS rumors continue to fly. It seems like every time there’s some sort of George Lucas related event, we get a few new tidbits. This comes from the recent AFI tribute/roast of Lucas via USA TODAY:

Ford was approached by Daniel Logan, 18, who played young Boba Fett in Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Lucas said Logan’s character may be included in his live-action Star Wars TV series, which is in the works.

To recap what we know about the STAR WARS series… it will be 100 episodes… it will take place between the two trilogies… Kevin Smith is somehow involved ... characters may include Aayla Secura (the hot blue Jedi) and Young Boba Fett. Stay tuned.
