TRAILER: A Scanner Darkly
The long-awaited A SCANNER DARKLY looks like it is finally going to be released this July. The release date has been moved more times than I can count, but I think it is actually going to hit theaters in July. Adding weight to this theory is a full-length trailer which has just hit the web. This trailer is way better than the last one and does a great job of hinting at the story of the movie instead of trying to look like some super-cool thriller. From what I’ve seen, there is a lot of comedy in this movie to go with all of the sci-fi mind-bending weirdness. So check it out and let us know what you think. Is it going to be a groundbreaking work of animation? Or does it look like somebody went crazy with Photoshop filters. Discuss!

Miguel Coyula short film hits the web
We have written lots about Miguel Coyula‘s incredible debut feature RED COCKROACHES. He is now hard at work on a new feature (which we can’t wait to see). But meanwhile, he has released BAILAR SOBRE AGUJAS (DANCING ON NEEDLES) via YouTube. This is a short film Coyula directed while in film school in 1999. The YouTube doesn’t do it any favors, but it still offers a glimpse at the greatness that is to come complete with some of Coyula’s signature flourishes: creepy atmosphere, luscious visuals, expressionistic lighting and tortured characters. We’ll bring you news on Coyula’s new film as soon as we can get it, but in the check out BAILAR SOBRE AGUJAS.

Amy Adams makes a movie
Amy Adams is garnering a crazy amount of buzz for her great performance in JUNEBUG, but she now proves she has potential as a multi-hyphenate as well. She’s just co-directed a short film which has hit the web courtesy of MovieCityNews. I think it’s called AN AMY ADAMS FILM. It seems like a bit of a lark dreamed up on the JUNEBUG publicity junket. It’s slight but kind of funny and will only continue to solidify her reputation as a very charming person.

TRAILER: Clerks 2
There’s a huge part of me that is still convinced that CLERKS 2 is a terrible idea, but there is a part of me that is definitely looking forward to it. The original CLERKS was a good movie that happened to hit at just the right time. I still like the movie, warts and all. But Smith has been mining this same material for 10 years now, each time with diminishing returns. Even though his super-early teaser is geared towards the hard-core View Askew fans, it does leave me a little more intrigued about seeing the movie. And Rosario Dawson is looking even cuter than usual.
In other CLERKS 2 related multimedia, check out this featurette entitled THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE MAN, which shows Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez reacting to a private screening of the flick.
