DAVINCI CODE headed for the big screen
Variety reported today that director Ron Howard will be helming a big-budget adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel The DaVinci Code. Howard will reunite with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman who he worked with on A Beautiful Mind.
The Davinci Code has been a real word-of-mouth favorite for the last year. It’s a slick, fast-paced read with some interesting and well-researched ideas. Dan Brown really knows how to pull a reader in and keep them interested. Once you’re finished with it though, you realize it’s nothing more than a well-crafted mainstream thriller. It should translate perfectly to a big dumb Hollywood summer movie, but if there’s a screenwriter alive that could screw it up, it’s probably Akiva Goldsman.
