DVD Release of INALIENABLE
Straight to DVD film INALIENABLE is a sci-fi tale that has the weirdest premise so far this year. A lovelorn man is impregnated and gives birth to an alien. He fights the government KRAMER vs. KRAMER courtroom style for the right of possession of the alien baby.
The DVD is available right now, released on January the 26th, Tuesday and is worth a look, if not for its outrageous plot. It comes with a celestial foil “O-card” packaging that is quite unique.
Review:-
INALIENABLE (USA 2009) **1/2
Directed by Richard Dyke
Written by Walter Koenig, who has a supporting role in the film as the protagonist’s meddling boss, this thriller comedy is unique in its daring premise.
The film begins like a normal day at work with scientist Eric Norris (Richard Hatch). Norris has a past, as shown in a pre-story sequence involving a crash that kills his son and ex-wife. The film gets weirder and weirder as it progresses, though intriguing in an odd way. Norris gets impregnated much to the consternation of his new girlfriend (Marina Sirtis). When the ‘baby’ is born – tentacles and all, Norris treats the ugly monster as his own child. Director goes all out to show the monstrosity in all its helplessness and pity. No that it works – but the segments could turn out laugh-out loud hilarious depending on how one wants to look at it. The story takes an odd turn as a courtroom drama with Norris hiring one odd lawyer who believes aliens exist in the universe.
Dyke treats his film seriously enough to keep his film moving – though humour is injected at the same time. It is only when the sly humour manifests (especially in the courtroom scenes) that the film works. But the film is an odd mixture of hit-and-miss.
The special effects are good and the production values are comparable to a big budget horror movie.
For a DVD rental, INALIENABLE is definitely worth a look, if not for being the film with the weirdest premise so far this year.
