Festival Highlights from the 4th Annual TPFF
TORONTO --This year’s Toronto Palestine Film Festival is taking place September 30 - October 7 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and the AGO Jackman Hall Theatre.
We are proud of be presenting a wide range of films, events and guests. Some highlights from the 2011 TPFF include:
Toronto Premiere of Pomegranates and Myrrh as the opening night film, with lead actor Ashraf Farah in attendance.
Debut of the Arab World Perspectives program featuring award winning Lebanese film Stray Bullet. The film, which stars TIFF Audience Choice Award winner Nadine Labaki, will be followed by a panel with the film?s director Georges Hachem and Ashraf Farah.
Sahtain! Traditional Palestinian Brunch serves a traditional Palestinian brunch catered by chef Isam Kaisi of 93 Harbord, and is accompanied by a performance from award-winning composer, pianist and electronic musician John Kameel Farah.
Arab Women and Media Representation Panel featuring internationally and critically acclaimed director, writer and producer Ruba Nadda (writer/director of Cairo Time) and professor Nahla Abdo.
The attendance of director Kondrad Aderer and journalist May Shigenobu for Q&As after the screening of Enemy Alien and Children of the Revolution.
Closing Night Screening of Hip Hop is Bigger than the Occupation followed by performances from rappers: Shadia Mansour, Mazzi and Yassine at Closing Night Party at The Pilot.
The TPFF Art Show of mixed media art produced by up and coming talents. The artwork will be displayed at the AGO screenings.
With 24 award-winning films -3 Toronto premieres, 10 Canadian premieres and 10 North American premieres -TPFF offers a wide range of short and feature length films on a wide range of topics (i.e., history, women, youth and art), which are explored from a unique and under-represented Palestinian perspective. The 4th annual TPFF is taking place September 30-October 7, 2011. Established in 2008, TPFF celebrates film as an art form and means of expression by showcasing the vibrant heritage, resilience, and collective identity of the Palestinian people.
