Ben Affleck news: Die Hard, Superman, Gone Baby Gone
March 22nd, 2005 by Cinema Eye
When you consider how Ben Affleck started out, it’s kid of amazing how much dislike there is for the guy right now. I am guilty of it. I think he has delivered some amazingly bad performances and made some bad decisions both professionally and in his public life. But watching PROJECT GREENLIGHT kind of makes me like the guy a little. If he picks the right projects I think he still has a slim chance at turning his career around. Here’s what he has planned next:
GONE BABY GONE might be a step in the right direction. he was originally slated to star in this project but now he is both writing and directing this adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel. The novel is part of series of detective novels set in Boston. GONE BABY GONE follows two detectives investigating the murder of a 4-year old girl. This is one of Lehane’s earlier novels, but you may remember that he also wrote MYSTIC RIVER. It’s actually a really good book, and would be fairly easy to turn into a good film. No word on casting yet, but Affleck has already completed the screenplay. (Source: Variety)
Next up for Affleck is TRUTH, JUSTiCE AND THE AMERICAN WAY which is based on the true story of the murder/suicide of SUPERMAN actor George Reeves. Also starring in the film are Adrien Brody and Diane Lane.
The most intriguing Affleck news is that he may star with Bruce Willis in DIE HARD 4. He would play John McClane’s son. Apparently, Affleck and Willis got along great on ARMAGEDDON and have been looking for an opportunity to work together ever since. (Source: Movieweb)
