(TORONTO - October 13, 2010) With respect to the current situation in Chile, where 33 miners have spent the past 69 days trapped 600m underground and are finally making their way to the surface one-by-one, the makers of Chilean mining documentary CRY OF THE ANDES would like to offer commentary and discussion.
The film takes viewers to the Huasco Valley in the Andes of Chile, where the relationship between the indigenous population and their natural resources is significantly at risk. CRY OF THE ANDES is shot between Toronto and Chile, where Canadian company Barrick Gold Corporation – the largest gold mining company in the world – has been working to green light the Pascua Lama open pit mine.
CRY OF THE ANDES will have its Toronto premiere at the Planet in Focus film festival this Saturday October 16, and has already screened at the Vancouver International Film Festival.
