Eastern Promises and Shake Hands With The Devil
Lead in 2008 Genie Award Nominations
Away From Her & The Tracy Fragments complete top four

(Toronto, ON) January 28, 2008—The nominees for the 28th annual Genie Awards were announced today by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT).  Leading nominated films include Eastern Promises and Shake Hands With the Devil, both with 12 nominations followed by Away From Her with seven, The Tracey Fragments, with six, Continental, a Film Without Guns and Silk, both with five and Denys Arcand’s Days of Darkness with four nominations.  This year’s presentation will take place Monday, March 3rd at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. 

According to ACCT CEO Sara Morton, “2007 was an outstanding year for Canadian film and filmmaking talent, especially in English Canada.” Canadian films across a wide array of genres were innovative, entertaining and critically-acclaimed, said Morton.  “And, many have been honoured with international awards and nominations, making it truly a year to celebrate.”

For the first time ever, the Genie Awards will be broadcast on the E! Television Network and IFC.
