Cannes Festival 2008 Winners
May 26th, 2008 by Gilbert Seah
The big winner this year at Cannes was the French film ENTRE LES MURS (English title: THE CLASS but direct translation is Between The Walls). Laurent Cantent (whose excellent film TIME OUT was released a few years back) directed. Apparently it was an almost unanimous jury decision.
Special prizes went to a grateful Catherine Denueve for A CHRISTMAS TALE and to an absent Clint Eastwood for his film CHANGELING starring Angelina Jolie.
Canada’s Seville Pictures were proud to take in 3 awards – one of which was the Deneuve award. The Jury Prize went to GOMORRA by Matteo Garrone and the award for Best Screenplay was awarded to LE SILENCE DE LORNA (LORNA’S SILENCE) by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne.
Turkey’s Nuri Bilge took the best director award for THREE MONKEYS. Benicio del Toro won Best Actor for his performance in Steven Soderbergh’s CHE, Sandra Corveloni took Best Actress for LINHA DE PASSE.
