Cinematheque Ontario - Coming Soon
July 13th, 2010 by Gilbert Seah

The next two series are on two French film masters: Catherine Breillat and Eric Rohmer.
Here is some more information:
Running from July 22 to August 15, Catherine Breillat: Anatomies of Desire showcases a retrospective on the bad girl of French cinema, Catherine Breillat, whose contentious films walk a willfully precarious line between provocation and pornography, courting censorship and derision as much as she has praise and admiration.
Then, from July 29 to August 10, TIFF Cinematheque commemorates Eric Rohmer, the elder statesman and sage of the French New Wave. The series, In Memoriam: Eric Rohmer (1920-2010) showcases Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales: Transforming erotic possibility into moral quandary, the six films are all struck from the same narrative template: a man, committed to one woman, finds himself attracted to a second woman, often darker, more sensual (and hence dangerous) than the first, a temptation which precipitates a moral crisis.
In conjunction with this series, TIFF Cinematheque is also proud to present the Toronto Premiere of Jean-Luc Godard’s three-and-a-half minute video homage to Eric Rohmer that was created for a special tribute that took place at the Cinémathèque française this past February. This video will screen before L’amour apres midi on August 10 at 7pm.
