Cruise to Run United Artists
November 3rd, 2006 by Chris Blagden
Tom Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner have found a new home in movieland following the rather public split from Paramount Pictures. Tom Cruise and Wagner are due to run competitor studio United Artists, a division of MGM Pictures that deals with speciality films.
Paramount attributed the lower than expected box office takings of Mission Impossible 3 to Cruise’s erratic behaviour of late, with this new deal it seems that Tom Cruise rides again albeit for a different studio.
Things changed at MGM due to Tom Cruise purchasing a “significant financial stake” in the company, Cruise now has financial authority to commission new films within certain budget parameters, believed to be as high as $60 million per project.
Cruise will star in and produce some new UA films although will still be available to participate in ventures from other studios. Content wise the aim is to produce commercially appealing and successful new movies that are targeted towards wider audiences than UA’s recent offerings. We say, more blockbusters, more Cruise!
