Dimension picks up PIRANHA remake

Everybody hates the idea of remakes of classic films - and usually I do to. But Chuck Russell’s remake of PIRANHA is one flick I am definitely looking forward to. I don’t care what anybody says, Russell’s remake of THE BLOB is freaking awesome and still holds up. I actually like it better than the original film. Now Russell is revisiting Joe Dante’s 1978 Corman-classic PIRANHA. Bring it on!!! According to Variety, Dimension has picked up the distribution rights for all English speaking countries.

Russell’s THE BLOB *is* awesome and *is* better than the original.
Anyone else remember PIRANHA being remade in the last decade with William Katt? I think it premiered on Showtime or something.
The William Katt movie was part of a series of Corman movies that were remade for Showtime—if I remember correctly. Joe Dante mentions it on the commentary track for the “Pirahna” DVD. They were really cheaply done and re-used the effects shots from the original film, only re-shooting the live action portions of the move—minus the humor. They remade “Humanoids from the Deep” as well.
