DECEMBER’S DOC SOUP BRINGS AUDIENCE AWARD WINNER
MEN WHO SWIM TO TORONTO
ANVIL MEETS THE FULL MONTY IN Exposé OF SWEDEN’S ALL MALE SYNCHRONIZED SWIM TEAM
Toronto, November 4, 2010 – Hot Docs is pleased to announce that the December installment of the Doc Soup monthly screening series will feature the Toronto premiere of MEN WHO SWIM (D: Dylan Williams, Sweden/UK, 72 minutes), winner of the audience award at this year’s Silverdocs film festival. Celebrated as “a whiff of ANVIL and even THE FULL MONTY” by The Washington Post, MEN WHO SWIM will screen on Wednesday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. at the Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West.
MEN WHO SWIM is a humorous and poignant look at a group of middle-aged underachievers who have found unlikely success as members of Sweden’s all male synchronized swimming team. What began as a weekly escape from the daily grind of work and family soon evolved into a more serious commitment. Inspired by classical Esther Williams techniques from the 1950s, this unlikely group have become passionate advocates of the sport. Now, the team has been unexpectedly invited to the Male World Synchronized Swimming Championships in Milan, and will need to prepare a winning 12 minute routine to be judged on artistic and technical ability.
The Doc Soup monthly screening series brings the latest Canadian and international documentaries to the big screen in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
