David Lynch to re-edit DUNE for directors cut
March 30th, 2005 by Cinema Eye
Although he once swore he would never touch the film again, it appears that David Lynch is in the process of re-editing DUNE for the upcoming DVD release. The special edition DVD was supposed to be released on May 10th, but it was recently cancelled with no explanation given. According the thedigitalbits.com, it’s because Lynch decided at the last minute he wanted to do an actual directors cut.
...after years of saying he would never revisit Dune, at the 11th hour director David Lynch decided that he wanted to be involved in the new DVD after all. Which means that when it’s eventually released, not only is the DVD going to include the original theatrical version of the film… it will include a brand new “director’s extended cut” edited by Lynch himself! No kidding.

Awesome, I’ve been wishing for this for a long time. The sci-fi version was a little bit easier to follow for those who have not had the chance to read the book. But by far, David’s version had the feel of the book. Sci-fi’s version was to clean and cheesy.
