DUNE gets a special edition DVD
February 3rd, 2005 by Cinema EyeUniversal Studios is finally giving David Lynch’s DUNE a proper special edition. Since we will never see Lynch’s 5-hour directors cut, this is probably going to be the ultimate edition for quite some time.
I know a lot of people hate DUNE, and maybe as a science fiction movie it isn’t so good, but as a David Lynch movie is is very interesting. The last time I watched it was not too long after STAR WARS EPISODE I for the first time and I was blown away by how amazing the sets were in DUNE compared to that movie. The music and visual style are also very operatic and unique. The movie definitely has it’s flaws, but I’ll look forward to watching this one on a decent DVD.

2 disc set

It is important to note, that neither one of these versions is the Director’s Cut. Lynch’s cut reportedly is almost five hours long and after the movie was re-edited without his consent, he vowed to never touch the movie again.
