Eli Roth talks CABIN FEVER 2
May 12th, 2005 by Cinema Eye
Rumors have recently been circulating that director Eli Roth was in a legal dispute with Lion’s Gate Films and that CABIN FEVER 2 had been cancelled. He recently set the record straight. He loves Lion’s Gate, CABIN FEVER 2 is still a go, BUT… he is not involved with the production. He is currently finishing up HOSTEL and due to time commitments he has had to bow out of the project.
In an e-mail to CREATURE CORNER, he clarified a few things:
I have a very full plate with HOSTEL and numerous other projects so I’m not involved with CABIN FEVER 2. My concept for the sequel was a SONG OF THE SOUTH-style half-animated film where Deputy Winston sings songs (ones I was forced to learn in Hebrew school) to imaginary creatures in his head, and has sex with the burned, rotted corpses of everyone who died in the original, but they didn’t go for it. Go figure. However, my CABIN FEVER co-writer Randy Pearlstein had a KICK ***censored*** idea for the sequel, and I believe they are going to shoot that draft, so I want nothing more than for it to be a great film. I told them all it should be better than the first one, and with Randy’s script, if they get the right director that’s a real possibility. But I was never considering directing the sequel unless it was an animated musical about a corpse-raping deputy, and even I recognize that’s probably not the most accessible idea. (Watch the last easter egg with Deputy Winston on the DVD and you will see the first installment of this concept...)
