EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING troubles

August 16th, 2003 by Cinema Eye

image EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING
Prequel fever continues unabated. Paul Schrader recently turned in his cut of the film to the great disappointment of the Warners execs. Apparently the film is lacking in gore, vomit and crucifix masturbation. Instead, the film is more instrospective and psychological. Oh well, there’s always CGI.

Update - August 16: Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells recently found himself the recipient of an e-mail purportedly from Caleb Carr (author of “The Alieniest” and one of the screenwriters of Exorcist:The Beginning. This e-mail has not yet been authenticated but seems to be the real thing. In the e-mail Carr blasts both Schrader and the film. He accuses Schrader of being drunk on set and for “phoning in one of the most inept, amateur, utterly flat excuses for a film that has ever been concocted.” Carr goes on to further attack Schraders cut of the film and says that it might me salvageable “with another ten million in reshoots - IF that little ***censored*** stays in his ***censored*** hole; so if he even tries to stick his head out, I’m going to blow the ***censored*** thing right off.”
