Halo3 & Gears of War Dead?
October 8th, 2007 by Chris Blagden
The big screen adaptations of Bungie / Microsoft’s Halo3 are definitely not going to be hitting anytime cinemas soon; this now seems to be semi-official.
Despite big sales, both ‘Halo3’ and earlier title ‘Gears of War’ are sitting firmly on the shelf, in the case of ‘Gears of War’ it was unlikely to happen due to financing restrictions at New Line and that Director Len Wiseman was now no longer associated with Gears of War, the only glimmer of hope for fans being that the source of the report is now being disputed.
In the case of Halo 3 Neill Blomkamp, the original director of Halo from way back when the film was going first going ahead told Creativity Online that “The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It’s not so much me as the entire vessel sank. The film collapsed at the end of last year, and it’s been dead, ever since then. I’ll be curious to see what happens.”
So there we are, for the time being ‘Halo3’ and ‘Gears of War’ are set to remain in the living room. Our view - well not necessarily a bad thing, so often ( not always granted ) but often the big screen adaptations of gaming classics tend to come up sub par, that is you rather wish it had been left well alone, the recent big screen version of ‘Doom’ is a great example of ‘great game, shame about the movie’. I could go on and rant for longer on this subject but I won’t.
