Keanu Reeves is SINBAD

March 10th, 2005 by Cinema Eye

Keanu Reeves has signed on to play Sinbad (the sailor, not the comedian) in the 8TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD. I’m not as much of a Keanu hater as most people are. In fact, I will argue that he has actually delivered some great performances in movies like MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO and RIVERS EDGE. He could actually be a kind of cool Sinbad. But unfortunately, this movie is going to suck. Why?

It’s being directed by Rob Cohen and produced by Neil Moritz. This is the team that has brought us the agonizing time wasters THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, XXX and the upcoming STEALTH about an intelligent robot jet that fights Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx.

The film is set in eighth-century China and involves a quest fo tind Aladdin’s lamp. Along the way Sinbad’s crew encounters a slew of CGI creatures that jump around and attack things.
