LAND OF THE DEAD sequel on the way

November 28th, 2005 by Cinema Eye

George Romero’s LAND OF THE DEAD didn’t really set the U.S. box office ablaze, but it did pretty well overseas. Universal/Rogue is so pleased with the movie’s overall performance that they are already starting to talk about a sequel. Romero recently confirmed this with Empire Online: “Now that LAND OF THE DEAD did so well in European markets and Japan, and the DVD is flying off shelves, there’s talk of a sequel”

The new film will follow the survivors of LAND OF THE DEAD as they journey north. This will be the first time any of Romero’s zombie flicks has had a direct sequel. “It won’t be in April but it might now be August or something. I hope to God we don’t have to do the winter again, but there’s a real buzz happening now about a sequel,” said Romero. The zombie sequel will push back both of Romero’s announced Stephen King adaptations: FROM A BUICK EIGHT and THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON.

Brilliant news on George gettin the opportunity to make a fifth ‘dead’ film. Cant wait fot this! LOTD got great reviews over here in Britain, and is one of the few horror films we’ve had on these shores in some time that is actually worthy of the title. Its a film that truly stands up to repeat viewing, and is a worthy addition to the ‘dead’ legacy.
I’ll be first in line for “Road of the Dead’(or whatever they finally call it.

Great, I am so happy for George and for myself because I get to see another Romero Dead film.  I have a GREAT idea for Universal Pictures, release an Unrated version of the film in theaters a few weeks prior to the wide-release R-Rated.  When fangoria did the Unrated one night only the day before the dvd hit shelves, I wen’t about 3 hours away from home to see it, then when I got back I slept for an hour, went to work, then rushed out to get the dvd, and watched it right after.
