Montreal's Doc Film Festival

Montréal, Monday August 25 2008 – After a 10th anniversary edition that saw over 18,000 people attend the festival, the 11th edition of the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) offers a diverse program with a hundred films from the four corners of the planet. From illegal immigration to father-son relationships, to examining the great challenges that face the world and captivating portrayals, the 2008 program will offer discoveries and memorable encounters.
For the first time, throughout the duration of the 11th edition, the public will be able to discover some of the best films from this year’s program free of charge at the Grande Bibliothèque.
In collaboration with UQAM’s Chaire René-Malo in Film and Cultural Production Strategies, the RIDM is proud to welcome French director Stan Neumann. A major figure on the documentary scene, thanks to his films Une Maison à Prague (1998) and La langue ne ment pas (2004), Stan Neumann will give a Master Class and participate in a screening-discussion where a restrospective of his films will be shown.
With 200 participants last year, the documentary marketplace Doc Circuit Montréal has become an event not to be missed for industry professionals. The 4th edition will take place on November 17 and 18.
The 11th RIDM will take place at the NFB Theatre, Cinema du Parc, at the Agora Hydro-Quebec du Cœur des sciences at UQAM and at the Grande Bibliothèque. And once again, in order to extend their reach outside of Montreal, the RIDM will present a selection of documentary films in Quebec City, in collaboration with the Musée de la civilisation de Québec.
By offering a place for encounters with documentary films and their creators, the RIDM encourages a spirit of openess and the tolerance necessary for the evolution of individuals and societies. The RIDM makes it possible for documentary filmmakers to continue the fight for freedom of expression and strengthens its invitation to look harder and see for real.
