New York Film Festival Lineup Announced
August 18th, 2003 by Cinema Eye
The New York Film Festival has annouced the slate for their 41st annual Festival and it looks pretty ***censored*** good.
Bookending the festival are two movies that are at the top of my must-see list. Clint Eastwoods Mystic River and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 21 Grams.
Mystic River is the story of three former friends who are forced to confront an act of violence that happened during their childhood. While I have my doubts about Eastwood’s direction, this film is based on an excellent novel by Dennis Lehane. Clips and photos released seem to indicate that Eastwood is doing something interesting here, so i’m eagerly awaiting this one.
21 Grams is Iñárritu’s followup to Amores Perros and stars Benicio Del Toro, Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The story involves a freak accident that brings together a critically ill mathematician, a grieving mother and a born-again ex-con.
Some other highlights of the festival will include: Errol Morris’ The Fog of War, Denys Arcand’s The Barbarian Invasions, Gus Van Sant’s Elephant and George Hickenlooper’s Mayor of Sunset Strip.
Unfortunately there is no mention of Vincent Gallo’s The Brown Bunny.
