SERENITY tops U.K. box office
October 15th, 2005 by Cinema Eye
Joss Whedon’s SERENITY didn’t exactly burn up the charts here in the United States, despite its healthy fan following and positive critical reaction. In the U.K. however, it’s at the top of the charts. Here are the Top 5 movies in the U.K. last week according to the BBC.
1. Serenity
2. Pride and Prejudice
3. Oliver Twist
4. A History of Violence
5. Kinky Boots
Of course this is all going to change when WALLACE AND GROMIT hits U.K. screens this weekend, but it’s still a little bit of cool news for SERENITY. You can watch the first 9 minutes of SERENITY online by clicking here.

I have seen Serenity 9 times already at the cinema, and intend to see it again at least twice more, before the release of the DVD.
If you are a Buffy or Angel fan, then you will love “Serenity” It is after all by Joss Whedon, and it has those quotable quotes, that only Joss can make, and if you don’t get his sense of humour forget it.
You will be laughing, and then crying almost simultaneously, and in shock for the last few minutes.
I came out of the theatre with my stomach in knots, this movie is an emotional experience, as well as being the best and most believable Sci Fi I have seen in ages, and the characters are quirky and loveable. If you have seen Firefly you will appreciate it more, but even if you are not familiar with the TV series you will still ‘get’ this movie. But it will not have the same emotional impact as it will for those who know and already love the crew of Serenity.
