The Will Ferrell motor racing comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby has sped to the top of the box office chart in north America.
The movie took $47m (£25m) in its opening weekend, according to provisional film studio estimates.
If confirmed this would make it the second-biggest opening by a non-sequel comedy, behind Bruce Almighty’s $68m (£36m) several years ago in 2003.
