The Da Vinci Code Delay Threat
March 1st, 2006 by Chris Blagden
Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code” is the worldwide bestselling novel that has topped sales lists around the world and has been translated into numerous languages across the globe. More recently the big screen adaptation has started filming and it is now the cinematic release that might be delayed due to a legal court challenge reports The Scotsman.
The Da Vinci Code starring Tom Hanks is set to be released worldwide on May 19th, but a copyright claim by the writers of a non-fiction book, “The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail”, is now being heard in the High Court in London. Co-authors Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, who wrote the “The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail”, in 1984 are pressing for breach of copyright on the grounds that the structure of their book was plagiarised by author Dan Brown for The Da Vinci Code.
There could be a resulting lengthy delay or even severe restrictions placed on the film, which is likely to be the biggest British film of the year. Release restrictions or even a ban would hurt the production severely and make recouping costs, nevermind achieving profit very dificult, even if in the short term the publicity surrounding the case will ensure significant public interest.

Shame! Was waiting for this one.
It won’t be delayed. All the studio will have to do is wave several million bucks in front of the writers and all will be fine. Kinda like how WB did with DUKES OF HAZZARD last summer, paying off the creator of the show who wasn’t going to get paid.
Controversial as this whole thing already is, I can’t help but wonder if Baigent, Leigh, and Brown aren’t all in this together to generate even more hoopla.
HOLY BLOOD HOLY GRAIL is mentioned in THE DA VINCI CODE, though I don’t remember its author’s names mentioned.
I dont recall the authors name mentioned either, but they had a character named after them… “Sir Leigh Teabing.” “Leigh” is obviously Leigh, and “Teabing” is Baigent rearranged.
they better not delay the movie cuz i’m waiting 4 this day with a great deal of impatience..lol anyway they will never be able to dealy the movie for....various reasons anyway hope they won’t delay it
Also ich finde das Buch echt genial. Der film muss ja denn noch besser werden und ich freu mich schon voll drauf. Das einzigst eklige ist Silas mit seiner Selbstgeißelung und so. Aber sonst ist der Film doch echt genial.
Thus I find the book really brilliant. The film must become even better then and I am pleased quite fully on it. The particularly disgusting one is Silas with his self punishment with a whip (flagellation) and in such a manner. But, nevertheless, otherwise the film is really brilliant.
This is the English translation for the German-girl’s comment - for those not fluent in German.
