The Dead Are Sold on November 24th

November 18th, 2009 by Gilbert Seah

Weekend Box Office

Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Glass Eye Pix unearth the DVD and Blu Ray release of I Sell the Dead in Canada. This 2009 Slamdance award-winning horror comedy film directed by Glenn McQuaid is produced by and co-stars horror-master Larry Fessenden (Wendigo, The Last Winter, Habit).

In I Sell the Dead, an 18th century justice has finally caught up to grave robbers Arthur Blake and Willie Grimes.  With the specter of the guillotine looming over him, young Blake confides in visiting clergyman Father Duffy, recounting 15 years of adventure in the resurrection trade.  His tale leads from humble beginnings as a young boy stealing trinkets from corpses, to a partnership with seasoned ghoul Willie Grimes as they hunt creatures unwilling to accept their place in the ground.  The colorful and peculiar history of Grimes and Blake is one filled with adventure, horror and vicious rivalries that threaten to pull all involved in the very graves they’re trying to pilfer.

In addition to Larry Fessenden, the acclaimed cast of I Sell the Dead includes Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings, “Lost”), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, The City of Lost Children), and Angus Scrimm (Phantasm, “Alias”).

I Sell the Dead has had a dizzyingly successful festival run, with stops in Sitges, Calgary, LA, Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Oldenberg, Dublin, Glasgow, Korea, and Israel to name just a few, has garnered awards for Best Independent Feature at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2008 where it celebrated its North American premiere, and Special Jury Mention for Best Performance for Fessenden as well as Best Cinematography at the 2009 Slamdance Film Festival. Says Mitch Davis, co-director of Montreal’s FANTASIA FILM FESTIVAL. “To see something this distinctive, this full of personality, wit and invention get made is such a rare thing these days. The film is an absolute joy from start to finish.”

Special Features included in this DVD and BLU RAY releases are:
Audio Commentary Tracks:
Director Glenn McQuaid
Larry Fessenden & Dominic Monaghan
Making I Sell the Dead
I Sell the Dead The Visual Effects

The special edition DVD includes a full color 40 page comic book based on the film script and illustrated by Braham Revel.

  1. Tessa Says:

Hello, I keep hearing that this movie was released Nov. 24th, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Do you know of any sites where I can purchase the U.S. DVD compatible version????? I found it on Amazon and one other site but they were region specific and don’t work on most US dvd players. Thanks!
