The Painted Veil Reviewed

British author W. Somerset Maugham’s stories have almost always involved the institution of marriage – something Maugham never believed in, as many suspected him to lean the other way.

In the new film version of THE PAINTED VEIL, based on his novel, the plot moves deeper examining as well the true meaning of love between a middle class doctor, Walter (Edward Norton) and an upper-class woman, Kitty (Noami Watts) who had married him to maintain her status.

Having studied and abandoned medicine for writing, Maugham’s Painted Veil contains subtle pleasures that could be read between the lines. Read the full review.
