The Wolf Man

Universal Pictures is planning a new version of its horror classic ‘The Wolf Man,’ with ‘Benicio Del Toro’ playing the lead role. Decent werewolf movies are thin on the ground in recent years but the genre has much to offer.
Backed with a decent story this could be one film that really delivers and would continue the Hollywood trend of remaking older classic movies. On a similar note the 2005 release of King Kong showed that the audience is there for decent horror/monster remakes and with a strong script this new werewolf flick could perform much the same.
Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., the new version will be set in Victorian England. Benicio Del Toro will play a man who returns from the USA to his ancestral homeland, while in England he gets bitten by a werewolf and starts to change by moonlight. Certainly this movie if well produced should appeal to fans of ‘American Werewolf in London.’
“Seven” writer ‘Andrew Kevin Walker’ has begun writing the script and spent several months introducing some frightening new twists to a classic and original werewolf tale, Walker has reportedly added several characters and plot changes that allow the full benefit of todays modern production and computer animation facilities to be realised.
Its expected that Universal will film ‘The Wolf Man’ in early 2007 after Del Toro completes Che Guevara biopic ‘Guerrilla’, and be a Summer 2008 release for the studio. Stay tuned for more information on this movie.
