Celebrated filmmaker connects with audiences for two special events this June
Toronto – TIFF Bell Lightbox welcomes acclaimed filmmaker, critic and scholar Thom Andersen for screenings of his video essay Los Angeles Plays Itself and four of his short works on June 9 and 10 respectively. As part of TIFF’s In Conversation With… series, Andersen will take the stage to introduce his films, have an onstage conversation with TIFF’s Jesse Wente, Head of Film Programmes, and answer questions from the audience.

Andersen introduces a special screening of his essay film – a witty and thoughtful exploration of how Los Angeles (not “L.A.”) has been represented on screen, from Hollywood classics to oblique art films, from action flicks, science fiction and gay porn to independent films and the avant-garde.

Andersen takes the stage once more for an onstage conversation and a screening of four of his short works, including his latest film Get Out of the Car, which debuted in the Wavelengths programme at the 2010 Festival.
