TIFF EXTENDS HOURS OF TIM BURTON EXHIBITION
Only 4 Weeks Left for Audiences to Visit Before Balloon Boy Floats Away April 17!
Toronto – Beginning March 29, TIFF will extend the hours of the Tim Burton exhibit ion at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Organized by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, TIFF Bell Lightbox is the only stop for the Burton exhibition in Canada. This is the last chance for audiences to delve into the imagination of filmmaker Tim Burton, as the exhibit must close Sunday, April 17, 2011.
“Audiences of all ages have enjoyed the Tim Burton exhibition since we opened our doors in late November,” says Noah Cowan, Artistic Director, TIFF Bell Lightbox. “We are delighted to offer extended hours to close out this exhilarating, inspiring journey through the mind of a creative genius.”
Starting Tuesday, March 29, the exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For the final week beginning April 11, the Tim Burton exhibition will also be open Mondays noon to 6 p.m. and daily Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This major exhibition brings together more than 700 items, including items from Burton’s personal vault, and explores Burton’s creative vision and his artistic development from early significant drawings he made as a teenager to sophisticated renderings used to create effects for his most treasured recent films. This exhibit is a magical journey through the creative vision behind films such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with side chambers to explore the forces that shaped Burton’s inventive mind.
Highlights from TIFF Bell Lightbox’s inaugural exhibition, which opened November 26, 2010, have included a Burton Blitz, featuring all of Burton’s films screened back-to-back movies in a single marathon event. TIFF also combined Cadavre Exquis storytelling with a Twitter campaign during which 90,000 people from over 160 countries from around the world joined Tim Burton in a story-making adventure starring Burton’s Stainboy character.
The following free weekend drop-in activities for families and youth will continue until April 3, each Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Age recommendation: 8 and up.
