Weinsteins to remake HALLOWEEN
October 8th, 2005 by Cinema Eye
I’m long past getting upset over Hollywood remakes of horror classics. After all they already remake DAWN OF THE DEAD, which was the “sacred cow” movie for me. Now that DAWN has been remade (and I actually really liked the remake), nothing really comes as a surprise. But now the Weinstein brothers have announced they are planning a remake of the John Carpenter classic HALLOWEEN. According to the New York Times: “Under the separation agreement between the Weinsteins and Disney, the brothers were given sequel rights to 15 franchise or potentially franchise projects, including a remake of HALLOWEEN.” This looks like a project guaranteed to infuse some cash into the coffers of the new Weinstein Company, so I am predicting this will hit theaters around Halloween 2006. Mark your calendars.

The Weinsteins are dumb if they even think about remaking one of the greatest movies, Halloween. The new horror movie remakes including Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, The Omen, The Fog, and all of the other remakes suck. They don’t have the texture of the original film. Sure, back then they didn’t have all of the technology that we have today, but it still scared people. The technology that we have today is what’s making the remakes of horror films crappy with computer generated characters and fake looking “special effects”. They should just leave the original films alone and let them still scare people instead of messing them up and adding things that the original makers of the movies wouldn’t want. Especially Halloween. There are some silly mistakes that John Carpenter didn’t see, but people didn’t see those mistakes because they were busy being scared. The Weinsteins shouldn’t remake Halloween because who else could replace Jamie Lee Curtis? I can answer that question, no one. She was the perfect role for Laurie Strode and did a great job in acting. Who else could replace the original Michael Myers? No one. Nick Castle, who played the adult Michael Myers in Halloween, was the original Michael Myers and made people scared of him. Remaking Halloween is going to be the worst mistake that the Weinsteins are going to make. Halloween fans around the world are going to be disappointed by the fact the Halloween is going to be remade. They love Halloween because it’s original. Remaking they’re favorite movie is going to be disappointing to them.
The Weinsteins shouldn’t remake the classic film Halloween because it’s a classic. Halloween wouldn’t be a classic if it were to be remade. I’m sure that John Carpenter and Debra Hill are going to be disappointed that the Weinsteins are going to remake they’re classic. Directors who remake horror films like to take out scenes that are important and add things that don’t have anything to do with the original film. They shouldn’t remake the film and that’s the end of that.
Halloween is my favorite horror movie and I first saw it when it came out on TV. I loved it right away because it scared me a lot. New horror remakes don’t make movies scary like directors used to. They don’t make movies scary anymore. Instead of making them scary they make them funny and stupid. The Weinsteins are stupid if they want to remake Halloween because it wouldn’t be scary any more.
Don’t remake Halloween. The movie is great. The Weinsteins are going to make it terrible if they do.
i’m not looking forwarde to seeing this movie. looks like a complete waste of time for the frankenstein brothers.
I’m a big fan of Michael Myers and I think it’s a terrible idea to remake HALLOWEEN the original terror movie. Besideds they’re probably going to get bad actors to play the roles of Legendary Donald Pleasance and Wonderful actress Jamie Lee Curtis. She and Mr.Pleasance made the film a success. Well, i have faith that this HALLLOWEEN RE-MAKE will turn out to be a blockbuster if all goes well. We’ll see next year in Halloween 2007.
