Welcome to Cinema Eye

You’ve heard me talking about it, but you’re still kind of wondering… what the hell is it? Well, I’m not 100% positive myself. It’s a site dedicated to movies, obviously. I have worked hard on the structure so that we can keep it continuously up-to-date with reviews, news, trailers, articles, etc. The idea is to produce something that is ever-evolving.
I’ve wanted to produce a site like this for a long time. Something with a lot of features and a ton of reviews. I was definitely inspired by the music review site 75 Words or Less. Originally, this was going to be nothing more than a catalog of very brief movie reviews. Somehow it evolved along the way.
While the geek stuff (super-hero, fantasy, sci-fi) will definitely be covered here, I am more interested in taking the site in the direction of independent, foreign, cult and experimental filmmaking. Of course, the ability to do this depends on the group of contributors we have at any given time.
The name Cinema Eye comes from a 1923 manifesto written by Dziga Vertov, in which he stated:
"I am kino-eye, I am a mechanical eye. I, a machine, show you the world as only I can see it.”
I first heard the phrase in a film studies class almost ten years ago. It stuck with me ever since. To me it signifies cinema at it’s most pure.
Welcome.
