X-Men Origins : Wolverine Release Date
October 18th, 2007 by Chris Blagden
Film Studio Twentieth Century Fox has booked the first of May 2009, for the cinema release of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ starring Hugh Jackman which director Gavin Hood begins shooting later this year.
‘Wolverine’ is expected to feature many other mutants, some new to the X-Men universe and some from one or more of the three ‘X-Men’ films.
Liev Schreiber is reportedly in final talks to take on the role of a younger version of nemesis William Stryker, played by Brian Cox in ‘X-Men 2’
This is the first time a title has been confirmed for the next chapter in the lucrative film series, based on the Marvel comic books.
The first weekend in May, often considered to be the first official weekend of summer, has recently proved to be the most profitable time of year with many families and young adults visiting the cinemas more than once during the period. Some films also benefit from repeat audiences, especially where the hype is backed up with real quality on the reel; its easy to see why this time of year is big business for the studios and so called ‘summer blockbusters’.
Certainly this date has been very profitable so far for many Marvel film vehicles. ‘X-Men 2” debuted in the same time slot during 2003, grossing an exceptional $86 million USD, and Sony Entertainment’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ turned over a huge $150+ million in revenue earlier this year in May 2007.
