Paramount backs Blu-Ray format
Paramount is the latest studio to sign on in support of Blu-Ray as the next generation DVD format. “We have been intrigued by the broad support of Blu-ray, especially the key advantage of including Blu-ray in PlayStation 3,” said Thomas Lesinski, president of Paramount Pictures, Worldwide Home Entertainment in a recent interview with the Associated Press. However, Paramount says it will also release it’s movies on the competing HD-DVD format so that consumers will have a choice. This is the first mention I have read of a company officially deciding to release its movies on both formats. This could lead to an interesting (and possibly very confusing) period of time where movies are released on multiple formats simultaneously: DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, UMD, etc.
