THE FEED :: September 9, 2003
THE FEED is a no-frills constantly updated feed of information. This is a brand-new feature that is part of the constant tinkering we are doing to improve Cinema Eye. Check back throughout the day for the latest news.
MADMAN in Rodriguez’s future
Robert Rodriguez has long been associated with a film adaptation of the MADMAN comic book series. Zap2it reported yesterday that MADMAN is still being planned. “MADMAN is a really funny comic because you could kind of spoof comic book movies and do a really great one all at the same time,” said Rodriguez. But first up is a top-secret CGI project and probably a thriller. MADMAN should shoot sometime next year. Ginchy!
Wham-O sues DICKIE ROBERTS
Slip ‘N Slide makers Wham-O filed a lawsuit against DICKIE ROBERTS asking the judge to order the film out of theaters until the scene is cut. Wham-O would also settle for a disclaimer to be added to the film cautioning Slip ‘N Slide users against coating the slide with oil and crashing into a fence. By the time this lawsuit is settled, DICKIE ROBERTS will be long gone from theaters. Look for the disclaimer on the DVD (should you even choose to watch this movie). Source: Hollywood Reporter
Richard Linklater goes back to college
Richard Linklater (SLACKER, DAZED AND CONFUSED)is one of the most interesting directors working today. You may not always like his films, but he is definitely experimenting with some interesting things. Linklater recently annouced that his next film, as yet untitled, will be similar in style to DAZED AND CONFUSED and will be set at a Texas college in the 1980s. The film will revolved around the trials and tribulations of a freshman who arrives at the school to join the baseball team. Paramount Pictures and Alphaville will produce the project. His next film SCHOOL OF ROCK, which stars Jack Black opens October 3.
CONSTANTINE’S cast grows
As a long-time fan of the HELLBLAZER comic book, I’m not sure what to think about the upcoming CONSTANTINE starring Keanu Reeves. It would seem hard to pick a more inappropriate actor for the role. But I guess we’ll see. Tilda Swinton joined the cast a few weeks ago, and now Gavin (Bush) Rossdale and Djimon (Tomb Raider 2) Hounsou have joined the cast. Rossdale will be playing Balthazar (a bad guy) and Hounsou will be playing Papa Midnite (sometimes a bad guy).
CABIN FEVER clip
CABIN FEVER hits screens on Friday. Horror fans are foaming at the mouth over this one, so hopefully it will live up to the hype. If you need even more to build your enthusiasm about this flick, check out this exclusive clip at ign.
AMITYVILLE: The Remake
Yep, another horror re-make is in the pipeline. Emmett/Furla films, Barstu Productions and Integrated Films have announced plans to produce yet another film based on the Amityville legend. While THE AMITYVILLE HORROR is definitely a film that could be improved upon, the writer behind the project is Daniel Farrands who wrote 1995’s HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS and wrote and directed the TV movie AMITYVILLE 2000.
