Weekend REPORT :: September 6-7, 2003
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star opened at first place this weekend. However, the opening was bittersweet. While David Spade may have been top dog this weekend, his film was the lowest grossing #1 film since 2000. Dickie Roberts is estimated to gross a measly $7 million once the weekend is officially over. This means Dickie Roberts only barely beat out Jeepers Creepers 2, which is estimated at $6.7 million for the weekend.
The weekends only other new release was The Order, opening in sixth place with a very disappointing $4.6 million. Have we already put the last nail in the coffin of Heath Ledger’s career? If not, I think we can safely do it now.
Pirates of The Caribbean brought in $5.5 million. This means that Pirates has swashbuckled Matrix:Reloaded out of the #2 spot for top-grossing movies this year.
The rest of the details are all too depressing and boring to detail here.
Maybe everybody was saving their money for the great-looking movies opening next weekend. These include Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Cabin Fever and Matchstick Men. Also indie faves American Splendor and Thirteen will continue to add new venues.
