L'Enfant

The project of L’ENFANT started with the Dardenne Brothers in a small Belgian town, watching a teen girl pushing a pram but appearing to go nowhere.  Missing was the child’s father.  The Dardennes decided to weave a tale around the absent figure.

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

Sophie Scholl was a member of the White Rose, a peaceful German resistance group fighting against the Nazi regime.  Set in Munich of 1943, the film is comprised of three parts – the first is the reenactment of the activities following her arrest; the second and longest portion, the interrogation under expert official Robert Mohr and finally her thoughts and trial leading to her execution.  Filmed in chronological order – films done in this way always wring out the actors’ best performances as the film progresses as in the case of this film – and with actual settings where the events took place, SOPHIE SCHOLL feels like an accurate and meticulous piece of filmmaking.  Chosen as Germany’s entry to this year’s Best Foreign Film Oscar, SOPHIE SCHOLL gives the impression that this is Germany’s attempt at purging itself of the atrocities occurred during World War 2.

The original 1994 BASIC INSTINCT had a detective investigating a series of sex murders in which the suspect - a seductive woman seems too obvious to be the killer.  In the updated 2006 version, Sharon Stone reprises her role as Catherine Tramell.  This time, relative unknown David Morrissey replaces Michael Douglas as a respected criminal psychiatrist caught in black widow’s web of murder.
