Catherine Breillat has never failed to shock less impress audiences with her strong points of view in her past films.  Her films offer her female slant on sex and she has not been afraid of display of graphic sex on the screen.  From early works like 36 FILETTE, ROMANCE to my favourite A MA SOUER! (FAT GIRL), this director compromises nothing.

The X Files: I Want to Believe

With a title like I WANT TO BELIEVE, film critics will have a field day with comments like I want to believe that this film works or I want to believe that this new X Files movie is actually believable.  Especially when the movie is quite awful!  (The film now registers less 50% on the T-meter at the Rotten Tomatoes website.)

Brideshead Revisited

BRIDESHAED REVISITED is typical British drama given the sophisticated touch of high society.  The story centres on a poor but educated Paddington painter, Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode, who held his own despite an underwritten role in the lesbian comedy IMAGINE ME AND YOU) who enters the household of the noble Marchmain family led by matriarch, Lady Marchmain (Oscar winner Emma Thompson).  Charles has a short fling with son, Sebastian (Ben Whishaw last seen in I’M NOT THERE) before falling in love with Julia (Hayley Atwell).  Bur Lady Marchmain makes sure Charles is totally pushed out of her family’s circle till he returns to Brideshead.
